What BIMI needs before it will show anything
BIMI displays your logo next to your messages in inboxes that support it. It is the last step of an authentication chain, not a shortcut: the record only takes effect once DMARC is enforcing. This tool checks the record, the SVG it points at, and the certificate behind it.
- Why is nothing showing even though the record is valid?
- BIMI requires DMARC at p=quarantine or p=reject. At p=none the record is read and ignored. Beyond that, Gmail requires a Verified Mark Certificate, so a valid record and a valid SVG still show nothing without one.
- What is a VMC and do I have to buy one?
- A Verified Mark Certificate is issued by a certificate authority after verifying that you own the trademark on the logo. Gmail requires one. Some other providers display a logo without it. It is an annual cost, and it is the step most organisations stop at.
- Which SVG format is accepted?
- SVG Tiny Portable/Secure specifically - not a general SVG export. No scripts, no external references, no raster images embedded, a square aspect ratio and a title element. Most design tools do not produce this by default, so the file usually needs editing by hand.
